It's been a while since the last entry...

Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak.

It was a totally expected reaction from Lily -- who is now almost 17 months old; and yet, it was still so un-expectedly delightful to be asked by this tiny girl to re-read this picture books three times in a row the first time I shared it with her.

I almost forgot how absolutely perfect this book is. Every stroke of the pen, every coloration, every character, every facial expression, and every single word is just right. There is nothing anyone can do to change and make it better.

Lily adored the chance to listen to her mother (me) doing the Wild Rumpus -- three different ways, one for each time we shared the story. I know for certain that this will become one of her all time favorite picture book. And it was so wonderful that I share the birth year with this break-through piece of work, the milestone in American children's literature history.
