- The Story
- Alexander is brave. He is only afraid of the dark and all of the
"creatures" lurking in the dark -- including a dragon
under his bed. His father tells him that there are only two ways to deal
with a dragon: either to scare it away, or make friends with it.
After making the dragon cry with a blow on the dragon's nose from his toy
sword, Alexander befriends the dragon and they play together and even
sleep in the same bed.
- Comments
- Except for Alexander, no one else in this story truly acknowledges
the existence of the dragon, who is green and scaly, with pinkish wings,
a pair of goat horns, and sharp teeth and claws. The dragon is not a
dragon but the personification of Alexander's fear of darkness and the
process of overcoming that fear.
