- The Story
- In this light-hearted four-book fantasy series, Cimorene, the
not-so-ordinary princess encounters and allies with dragons in the
cooperative effort to fight against the evil wizards from the Society of
Wizards. Many fairy tale conventions and folk story elements are
parodied to make these stories highly entertaining.
- Comments
- The dragons in these books are portrayed as extremely strong, highly
civilized, with magic powers, and fairly human like. They kidnap
princesses to be their servants because it is the traditional thing
that people expect them to do. Their king is elected with the magic
power of a stone regardless of the sex of that dragon. Princess
(later the Queen of the Enchanted Forest) Cimorene's mistress, Dragon
Kazul, at the end of the first book, is chosen to be the King of Dragons.
Since many conventions are parodied and many folk tale rules broken, the
reversal of the Dragon's society into a highly cultivated one seems
natural and fitting. The need of villains and conflits is filled
with the presence of the evil, but also comical, wizards who can be
"melted" by the solution of soup water and lemon juice.
